GIVENCHY SPRING 2009

Granted, this is collection isn't new but it is still one of my favorite menswear collections of all time. It is CRAZY to me that this collection was Riccardo Tisci's first attempt at menswear....the tailoring is impeccable and the silhouettes are completely unique and also totally wearable. Although I love menswear, a lot of menswear designers seem to re-create the "classic suit" and other menswear basics collection after collection. This collection in particular is completely cohesive and incorporates familiar menswear staples while relating them in an entirely new way. Layering of contrasting textures, embroidery and variation in dying techniques of the textiles show that every detail of each garment was taken into consideration.
"Gothicism and Catholicism have been cornerstones of Riccardo Tisci's growing reputation in womenswear, so why would his first foray into menswear start anywhere else? Except it didn't. It actually started with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra sawing its way through Metallica's “Nothing Else Matters”."
